By partnering with BrunNet, the Fredericton Chamber became Canada’s first chamber to achieve Cyber Essentials certification. Additionally, the Chamber has since championed the construction of Fredericton’s Cyber Park and sponsored cybersecurity-focused policies at the national level.
BrunNet, a trusted IT provider specializing in cybersecurity, guided the Chamber through a tailored approach to the certification process.
“Working with BrunNet was instrumental; they provided a clear path to certification and greatly enhanced our security framework,” said Krista Ross, CEO of the Fredericton Chamber. We’re proud to set an example in cybersecurity for our community.”
In today’s digital age, cybersecurity is an essential topic—whether at the dinner table or in boardroom discussions. As technology advances, the risks resemble scenarios from Black Mirror more closely, with data breaches, identity theft, and cyberattacks seeming more plausible than ever.
With the rapid evolution of AI and the rise of blockchain, businesses gain new opportunities but also face new risks, making cybersecurity an urgent priority. Seeing these trends on the rise, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce partnered with BrunNet to obtain the government-backed Cyber Essentials Canada certification, demonstrating their commitment to online safety.
The certification protects businesses from 80 per cent of common internet threats through five key controls: Patch Management, Malware Protection, Access Control, Secure Configuration, and Boundary Firewalls.
To help the Fredericton Chamber achieve certification, BrunNet adopted a holistic approach that included:
- Comprehensive audit to find security gaps
- Performing network vulnerability scans
- Providing a GAP assessment with recommended improvements
- Updating security technologies and practices
- Revising and establishing cybersecurity policies
- Managing program submission and coordination with auditors to secure certification.
After receiving the Cyber Essentials Canada certification with BrunNet’s support, the Chamber has cemented its role as a cybersecurity advocate within the business community in the Fredericton Capital Region.
Looking ahead, the Chamber is now collaborating with BrunNet to pursue the CyberSecure Canada certification—the next step in enhancing its cybersecurity measures.
